South Korea Sets First Security Standards for Digital Wallets

South Korea’s Financial Security Institute (FSI) has introduced the country’s first security framework for digital wallet services in the financial sector.

The framework sets unified security standards covering key management, authentication, data protection, and blockchain node operations amid rising crypto hacking incidents and the institutionalization of digital assets such as stablecoins.

By addressing risks across the entire wallet lifecycle—from design to operation—the initiative aims to enhance consistency and resilience in financial digital wallet services. Authorities plan to expand real-world adoption and promote interoperability with global standards.
