The financial authorities conducted a thorough investigation after it was discovered that certain small and medium-sized coin market exchanges had listed and exchanged "self-issued coins." In order to look into how self-issued currencies are handled, the Financial Intelligence Unit ("FIU") of the Financial Services Commission ("FSC") has addressed a letter of cooperation to all domestic cryptocurrency exchanges. According to an FSC representative, the Act on Reporting and Using Specified Financial Transaction Information ("the Act") has restrictions on how domestic exchanges can handle self-issued currencies.
