The Korean Ministry of Justice Plans To Introduce a Virtual Currency Tracking System
As part of its efforts to improve the tracking of money laundering using virtual currency and the recovery of illicit proceeds, the Korean Ministry of Justice declared on January 26 that it will implement a virtual currency tracking system in the first half of the year. The system will keep track of transaction specifics, extrapolate relevant data from transactions, and verify the origin of funds both before and after the transfer. The Ministry of Justice also intends to run a national digital forensic cloud system, modeled after the prosecution's digital forensic system, to restructure the infrastructure for the forensic investigation. The National Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Bureau and five significant Korean won exchanges struck a business agreement in October of last year to work together on criminal investigations and guard against harm to virtual assets. According to the Ministry of Justice, a criminal justice system that satisfies international standards will be put in place.
