In the first half of this year, Upbit, a Korean cryptocurrency exchange, exhibited the highest interest in ESG management, as per a survey by Data & Research. Upbit had a total of 1,380 ESG management posts during this period, a significant difference from other exchanges. Additionally, Dunamu, associated with Ubit, was recognized for its ESG efforts, notably for a “Trees” keyword in its ESG management.

Dunamu initiated a forest restoration project with the Korea Arboretum Garden, using non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to protect rare plants. Sales fees from NFTs were donated to the Endangered Plant Protection Fund. In February, a dedicated ESG management committee was held to discuss strategies.

Among other exchanges, Korbit, Coinone, Bithumb, and Gopax followed Upbit with 101, 45, 38, and 19 ESG management posts, respectively. Korbit garnered attention for its ESG promotion event, “The Preview,” in the arts and culture sector.

Data & Research noted that the cryptocurrency industry’s ESG activities had contracted due to the market’s subdued state. However, Dunamu, ranked as the 61st largest group in Korea by asset size, received recognition for its social responsibility through big data awards.
