Worldcoin Faces Investigation Over Personal Data Collection Practices
The Personal Information Protection Commission's investigation into Worldcoin, known for collecting personal data like face and iris recognition, is expected to conclude next month, with findings released by July at the latest. The investigation, initiated in February following reports of improper biometric data handling, is being expedited, possibly concluding a month earlier than usual. Worldcoin, an iris recognition-based cryptocurrency developed by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has faced scrutiny for its data collection practices. Despite some changes to its privacy policy, the NIPC is examining whether Worldcoin's data handling complies with regulations, including the transfer of personal information abroad.
