North Korea Suspected of $200 Million Hack on India's Largest Cryptocurrency Exchange, WazirX
North Korea is suspected of hacking India's largest cryptocurrency exchange, WazirX, and stealing over $200 million in cryptocurrencies, according to Radio Free Asia (RFA) on November 18. British blockchain data company Elliptic and cybersecurity firm CyberSys both indicated North Korean hackers were behind the attack. The hackers accessed WazirX's virtual wallet, stealing various cryptocurrencies, including Tether, Pepe, and Gala, and laundering them through Tornado Cash into Ethereum. WazirX acknowledged the hack and suspended withdrawals to protect assets. Elliptic and hacking expert Jack XBT linked the attack to North Korea's Lazarus Group, known for previous significant cryptocurrency thefts, including $35 million from a Japanese exchange in March.
