As regulations on private equity funds have been fortified on all directions, capital directed to new technology project investment cooperative (hereinafter “NTPIC”) and venture capital (hereinafter “VC”) is increasing. The problem is that these two funds function similarly to private equity funds but do not have any investor protections. While concerns on the “2nd Private Equity Fund Scandal” are emerging, partner attorney Sangjin Cha emphasized that “private equity funds, NTPIC, and VC are all operated under different regulations, but in the sense that they all manage capital from others, same regulations should be applied. Especially considering recent trends, stronger regulations focusing on investor protection are needed.” [Business Watch 2019-11-01]
