Concerns over Taxation Issue of Virtual Assets in South Korea (Dec 2022)

Recent worries about the taxation of virtual assets are growing as the National Assembly of Korea has been virtually paralyzed for some time because of disagreements between the opposing political parties and the government's promise to delay the taxation of virtual assets until 2025 seems to have been compromised. Due to this political unrest, a number of legislative proposals have not been passed, including the legislative bill the current administration sought to delay the taxation on virtual assets for two years. Nevertheless, as the Legislative Bill will inevitably be brought up during the National Assembly's plenary session, it is anticipated that the National Assembly will resume formal discussions about approving the Bill very soon.
